Day 152-153: Register to Vote: Celebrating 100 Years as a Woman in the USA!

If you have not gotten around to registering to vote, head on over to your local municipal building or register online to make sure you can cast your ballot early. We got ours in the mail a few days ago and are looking forward to celebrating 100 years of my sex/gender identity being allowed to vote in this country.

Currently in the Midwest of the USA we are battling a "derecho" tonight, as well as large-scale unemployment and civil unrest after a successful sting of political officials by the FBI took down the speaker and several members of the state legislature. Nationally we are leading the world by number of cases of COVID-19, as well as deaths, in economic downfall like never before, locked in a vote based in partisan voting, taking to the streets as the words "Black Lives Matter" fall on deaf ears, and are shutting down the credibility of the media as "fake news". Globally there is a political vacuum, leaving superpowers with nuclear weapons at the helm as we watch cities such as Beirut literally be blown off the map while we are supposed to protect our fellow neighbor by staying at home.

The least we can do from home: vote. Vote to change any one of these issues. Or any of the issues that matter to you. Just a few that spring to mind for me: a woman's right to choose what is best for her own body, healthcare that is accessible to all people, equal pay, net neutrality, halting "Big Pharma" to make medication accessible, addressing the economic gap, tax cuts, school levies, immigration laws, gun reform, expression of religious freedom, CLIMATE CHANGE (again I refer you to the "derecho" that I had to google as new, severe weather patterns are given new, less severe names), banking policy, police reform, and oh yeah...100 years ago I would have been marching in the streets for my right to vote. So, on to the others.

Prepare, don't panic,

-Allison
