Day 185-186: Happy Birthday, Alex!

This year I told Alex that he would be getting an "experience" present from me (we both prefer experience gifts to "thing" gifts for most occasions) which seemed to throw him off as we are not leaving the house right now. But in typical Alex fashion, he went right along with it and had several fun surprises throughout the day. :)

Our parents knocked it out of the park with a surprise zoom/in-person gift delivery along with many cards from sweet friends and family members (including our furry friend in this picture!)

I think that it is safe to say that Alex was well and truly surprised by some of the exciting gifts that he received! I hope that even in this crazy time, other folks are finding ways to bring the normalcy of joy into special milestones.

After toasts and treats with our folks, Alex assumed that was the only surprise in store (which surprised me considering how long we have been together!). When I told him we were invited to zoom with one of our best friends, he thought nothing of it until I turned the computer screen toward him and he found more than ten friends (thanks for conspiring, guys!) smiling up at him from a virtual Escape Room. We made it out with almost 14 minutes to spare!

We are so fortunate to have such awesome friends and family who will spend their free time celebrating with us despite the miles and many other challenges right now. Happy birthday, Alex--from all of us!
