It's hard to believe that we have cycled back to another lazy Sunday. We are being as intentional as possible of allowing ourselves to be "lazy" like we might normally be on weekends pre-, and eventually, post-COVID life.
Our Sunday has been filled with games, games, and more games. We finally joined our friends in jumping on the Animal Crossing bandwagon with the Nintendo Switch. It has been incredibly relaxing to spend time cultivating an island in, essentially, a utopia. It is amazing to me to hear healthcare professionals suggesting to people in our nation to play "life simulation" games (Sims, BitLife, Animal Crossing, etc.) in order to calm nerves during times of high stress in quarantine. Anecdotally, I am compelled to agree with their assessment!
Last night it was fun to play both Animal Crossing (as well as some of the base Mario games) with friends and family.
Today we played a little more on our own and then jumped onto our virtual, family D&D game for about 4-5 hours. I suppose it it not technically "real life" simulation, but it sure is fun to dive into a world of elves and dwarves and wizards to give our minds a break. It also really helps to have a cute face rooting for you to roll the correct dice!
We also took a good hour for just the two of us to practice yoga together today, which was incredibly restorative and a helpful reminder to keep moving, even when it is so easy to stay on the couch for games and work time. After some Yoga with Adriene, we focused on loosening up our legs/low back and then "text neck" muscles. Much more comfortable now than we we started in the early morning!
Ever since I first got Rory at seven weeks old, he has had this golden ring that has survived 5 1/2 years of being chomped on-now he reserves it especially for when we get on the floor to do yoga. We finally took a picture today to prove it...one of my favorite of his habits. Who am I to question the zen of dogs?
As we start winding down, we are enjoying the residual tastes, and smells, of some homemade cookies. With Alex's spring break coming up soon, we are planning to get some final lesson plans prepped and *try* for a normal bedtime to go into Monday with plenty of rest.
We are looking forward to a low-key evening with our pup and another homemade meal (never enough tacos!) with an early bedtime. I hope that all of you had restful and restorative weekends, too!
Although a lot of folks have requested writing posts from the perspective of a "day in the life," please let me know if there are other things you would enjoy hearing about from medical quarantine (what we are watching, how we are taking care of this silly 80 lb. pup, anything at all)! We will absolutely talk about what is on the community's mind. This upcoming week is projected to be an emotionally hard time in the U.S.A. with the virus spread...remember to be kind to yourself, to your neighbors, and the world as a whole. We are all in this together, friends.
Prepare, don't panic.
