Day 27: Supermoon and Supercuts

Today my husband reached a new level of marital trust in asking me to cut his hair "with my best judgment. Here are the before and after photos. What do you think?

After:

"Quarantine Cuts by Allie" is officially open for business! Even if this look was put together with only the following tools...the only tools I had at my disposal: a comb from a vacation resort and curved cuticle scissors.

I may have been a little overzealous after that because I then went on to cut our pup's fur back just enough for him to see (as well as give him a full bath and brush out). I think he looks very handsome!

Here in the Midwest we had a beautiful sunny day yesterday, so we took some time in our (quarantine-approved, fenced-in) backyard to play with Rory and soak up some sunshine. This is our first spring in our new home and I made a beautiful discovery next to our steps in the back. What would your four-leaf clover wish be right now?

It was magical to watch the sunlight play in the leaves of the trees, hear the wind kick in and out of the branches. Things that I am realizing I will do my best never to take for granted again. I offered up a prayer for the health, happiness, and humility of our world in this precious time of reflection as we all navigate uncharted waters together. We are working to keep our spirits nourished and are seeking ways to allow, release, and accept. We may not always have control of everything we would want--what we do have control of is ourselves, our reactions and responses to the things that happen to us. Today, I choose joy as my great act of rebellion. What about you?

In the evening, Alex surprised me with an at-home date that we have been talking about doing for awhile now...movie night!

We watched my favorite avenger last night, Captain America, as the first installment of a much longer marathon we are doing of the whole Marvel/Avengers universe.

We will be posting some fun movie marathon ideas (with run times!) if you and/or your family is ready to undertake a fun challenge at home. Do you have a favorite superhero who you are channeling during this time?

We ended the night with an event that I have been looking forward to for quite some time now--the Pink Supermoon. This is the first supermoon of spring, when the moon is the closest/brightest that it can be. The supermoon peaked around 10:35 P.M. and it was absolutely breathtaking.

After just bathing in the light for several minutes, doing a meditation, and offering prayers to the universe and loved ones, Alex and I started dancing. It wasn't planned...it wasn't choreographed. We sang every song we could think of celebrating the moon and held each other close as we celebrated the beauty of a simple, pure moment.

As Capt. Mal Reynolds would say, "You can't take the sky from me."

Even in the midst of so much uncertainty, there is light and beauty up there, worth fighting for, my friends. Let's make faith an okay thing to have, to encourage it. Lean into those beautiful moments. Let them fill you up--maybe this slower world right now is also giving us precious gifts.

What a wonderful night for a moondance.

Prepare, don't panic.

-Allison
