One of my favorite ways to both be thoroughly entertained and also absorb the news at the same time (yes, it is possible), it is to tune in to watch some of the late night hosts who are publishing content on YouTube and other platforms right now. In solidarity with Stephen Colbert's mission to raise money for World Central Kitchen, we made a donation and received these shirts as a thank you.
There are so many organizations providing hope, lighting the way forward through a dark and perilous time. Is there a charity you are supporting or would like to raise awareness for? As a newly married couple consisting of a graduate student and first-year teacher, we do not have much excess money at the moment, but donating is not the only way we have found to support organizations we believe in right now. Making and sending masks to organizations who need to work in the office, providing social media exposure, or calling your local government representatives are just a few ways you can help out without even reaching for your checkbook. What else are you doing in your community?
When my husband and I wrote our vows we included several catchphrases that we found ourselves using regularly over the time we were dating. One of them was "be selfless AND strong." This resonates deep in my bones right now as we dig deep to help our neighbors locally and globally to give all the support we have. I hope you are having a good weekend, everyone.
Remember: selfless and strong.
Prepare, don't panic.
