This weekend has been stressful as our pup has needed two emergency visits to the vet. With the help of loved ones, we were able to get him the help he needed and is on the mend now (it really pays to have parents who will take your calls at all hours of the night and a brother who just completed his third year of veterinary school). Friday and Saturday night we were up with our little guy until 5 a.m. and then slept a little to keep ourselves going to monitor him during the day. Thankfully, he is responding to the treatment that he received and although we are still monitoring closely, he is needing a little less help and we are able to get slightly more sleep (if only a couple hours).
My wonderful mother-in-law and father-in-law brought my husband a fun end of term present in the form of Nana's homemade cinnamon rolls (courtesy of Alex's brother and cousin). They also included a loaf of my favorite food ever, homemade gluten-free (celiac is not great with cinnamon rolls) banana bread.
We enjoyed our incredibly thoughtful gifts during a game of D&D with our usual weekend crew and were able to keep a close eye on the pup while doing that. Not a bad way to kick off the start of the summer! It has become a highlight of our week to play D&D with our family and friends since we are under such tight restrictions staying home. We will take adventure any way we can get it! Thankfully my spout of sickness has begun to clear up with the help of some medication to get the last bit of gunk out of my system. The only (big) downside, it is that it skyrockets my blood sugar, so we have had to monitor that very closely as well. I am hoping to we are coming to the end of this bug (my doctor is estimating another few weeks) and then I will have a little more energy. Until then, we will be looking forward to next week's game and are settling in for a date night to play Mario Party on our Nintendo switch. Right now I think that the motto may be: games, games, and more games, please!
Prepare, don't panic,
-Allison
