Day 92: Nesting

When the world turns upside down, sometimes the most settling thing we can do is make our own safe space. As I am slowly pushing myself to do a little more each day as my lungs improve-walking, talking, laughing-I have been seeking out new ways to make our home space a haven during this pandemic storm to help both of us feel comfortable.

Yesterday we got to work building some furniture we have had for quite some time, but have not gotten around to building all of it. It has been really fun to figure out all the crazy designs with Alex and laugh at our own mistakes as pegs are put in and then taken right back out!

I know we are "supposed" to not like building furniture together, but to date we are beating the nonsense out of that stereotype. Also, does this count as at at-home date?

So far, so good! FIrst item has now been completed! Let's keep the momentum going!
This morning, Alex excitedly came running into the living room as I was just starting to return some e-mails when he told me that the same bird flew out of a hanging basket we have on our back deck for the second day in a row. This prompted both of us to go outside together and peer in for a closer look. Lo and behold:

A family of black-capped chickadees decided to do some actual nesting outside while we get things together inside the house at the same time. We were able to identify them with help from my field guide on the color, shape, size of the eggs and also Alex's two run-ins (fly-ins?) Apparently these little guys are known for their inquisitive and even "friendly" nature. We could not be happier with the little family addition. We were incredibly careful to NOT disturb the nest or surrounding foliage that these little ones have a happy mama when she gets home. We are going to be very careful with water this plant that has become their little haven. We all have a right to a place that can be a safe place and I am so happy we can watch the progression of these friends over the next few weeks!
Prepare, don't panic.
